The use of dermal fillers is becoming increasingly popular internationally, regardless of genders. Dermal fillers are used to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines, and other signs of aging on the face, transforming you back to your younger days instantly! However, just like how the magic used on Cinderella can only last till 12 midnight, the effects of dermal fillers are only temporary.

While some people feel that there are benefits to dermal fillers being temporary, such as allowing them to try different types of dermal fillers to find the best one that suits them, most would want a to have a dermal filler that last for a long time once they have decided on the best brand suited for them. After all, why end the party at 12 midnight if you can push it to the next day? Let us now find out more about the world’s longest lasting filler- Ellansé.

Why are fillers temporary?

Most dermal fillers contain hyaluronic acid, a substance that is produced naturally in the skin to keep the skin hydrated. The hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers are used to hydrate the skin, fill in wrinkles and replace lost volume in the skin. However, due to hyaluronic acid being naturally produced in the body, over time the body will break it down completely. Wrinkles and fine lines will then resurface on the face.

How long do Fillers usually last?

There are many different types of fillers and they each have different lifespans depending on the rate the body breaks down the fillers. On average, filler lasts for at least 6 months, and the higher end ones, such as Ellansé can last up to 4 years. We will now look at the different fillers based on their longevity.

Lasting 6 Months to 1 year

These fillers are basically hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers such as Restylane, Juvederm, Revanesse and Teosyal. They are usually used for treating wrinkles and replacing facial volume loss. Harder HA filler can be used to shape a higher nose or a sharper chin too.

1 to 1.5 Years

Other non-HA fillers are able to last up to 18 months, e.g. Radiesse and Sculptra.
Radiesse is a filler that contains calcium hydroxyapatite, a substance that can be found in the bones and the teeth. Radiesse encourages the production of collagen in the skin, allowing results to last longer, usually up to 18 months.

Sculptra is also an anti-aging filler that works in the same way as Radiesse, lasting up to 18 months. It has become less popular due to its troublesome post treatment massage – 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days. Poor massage may affect the final result.

Ellansé Fillers

How does Ellansé fillers work?

Now that you have a better understanding of the other fillers and their respective longevity, you should now be able to truly appreciate the beauty of Ellansé. Ellansé fillers are made of a biodegradable synthetic polymer called polycaprolactone (PCL). The PCL microspheres are suspended in a gel carrier made of another polymer called carboxymethylcellulose (CMC).

Ellansé fillers work using a simple two-step process:

  1. Once injected into the skin, volume-deficient areas are immediately filled up with the CMC gel carrier.
  2. The PCL microspheres simultaneously stimulate the process of neocollagenesis- the production of collagen in the body.

Why does Ellansé fillers last longer?

Over time, as the CMC gel carrier is naturally reabsorbed by your body, but new collagen replaces it, keeping the skin rejuvenated. The PCL microspheres, on the other hand, are retained, leading to longer-lasting volume until all the molecules are dissolved. As boosted collagen production continues, you may also continue enjoying a natural lifting and tightening effect on your skin.

Ellansé is different from hyaluronic acid fillers as not only does it address wrinkles, fine lines and folds by filling up lost volume, it also stimulates production of collagen to effectively target the underlying causes of facial aging.

Ellansé fillers last much longer than other traditional dermal fillers, lasting 1-4 years, depending on your choice of product. Its longevity causes the traditional fillers that usually only last just 6–18 months to pale greatly in comparison.

What are the different types of Ellansé fillers?

The longevity of Ellansé fillers depends on the type of Ellansé fillers used (S, M, L or E) and the length of the PCL microspheres chain. With longer chain, the results would last longer. The 4 types each have different longevity and reabsorption rate by the body. They can all be used on the same areas on the face, and will be fully absorbed by the skin and body after their longevity period as stated below.
